Well, I've finally decided on a design for my site.
Instead of overloading the site with tons of sections, i broke it down into 3. The Flash version will include animated transitions, as well as hidden background "easter eggs", a little signature of mine, i guess. Also, i have never seen a website based aligned to the right of the window (because of course, the West reads left ro right). I thought it would be a good challenge to see if i could still make it work aligned right. The site fades into the window background, which itself fades from blue to black (which was easier than i expected) giving it a seamless, continuous feel. I wanted to make this work as a portfolio site as well as a band website. In the finished version, rolling over the flowers will indicate which section they go to of course. The symbols in the corner will link to the other sections so the user won't have to keep going to the main page. The site itself will be monochromatic, but all my art pieces and like media will load in popups. A preview will be on the main site of course, but i would rather do it that way to conserve bandwidth on the Flash file, and not disrupt the dimensions of the file either. It will also be a visual shock as well, the vivid colors contrasting with the main site. I only used two pictures, both from ~ resurgere they've got AWESOME stock if you need some. hope you like it!!! |

I should be in a big armchair with an enormous duvet.
Hope you make not too much anims because I hate on flash sites when the load too long!
i have changed the design as well. most of the pictures above are used, but in a different way, as mini sites (in pop ups.)
i just posted it a couple days ago at [link] if you're interested.
For what resolution do you design your site?
1024 x 768 is optimal, to get the effect of the images i use on the homepage, and i actually make the thing on a 1280 by 1024 res monitor.
i hate designing for 800 x 600, though, cause everything is so huge at that resolution, and tiny in others.
more and more people today use more than 1024x768. So is there the problem, if you use a font-size that is good readable with 1024, it is mostly too small for higher res.
Mostly this users play around with the font size in the Internet Explorer. So you must use CSS to have one font-size that isn´t possible to change through the browser. If you let the User change the font-size it can happen that the pics are at the wrong place and the design is destroyed.
But then Users with more than 1024 can´t read anything, because it is too small.
I don´t think that there are many people who use 800x600. I use it sometimes, but I´m sure that I´m the only one.
Ok, there are scripts to detect the resolution and to load a specific site...but thats too much work, If you want to change some text, you have to change every site for ever resolution...
yes, that are the problems with webdesign...
